Ghana Open Data for National Development on 20th December


The Information Technology Association of Ghana (ITAG), in partnership with the Ministry of Communications, National Information Technology Agency, Ghana Open Data Initiative,  KPMG Ghana and IPMC will hold its 2nd General Meeting on 20 December, 2012 at the Accra International Conference Center from 8:00am


The theme for the 2nd General Meeting is “Open Data for National Development”. This follows the first General Meeting held at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in February, 2012. The association aims to be the voice of Computer Science, IT and Engineering Science professionals in Ghana.

The keynote address and formal launch of the Ghana Open Data Initiative(GODI) portal will be done by Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications.


The portal populated with raw data ranging from Census data, Election data, Health data, Education data, Agricultural data, Telco Quality of Service data, Procurement data, Budget data and many more. The data can help users achieve the following: 

  • Provide a central platform for access to public data
  • Bring about the development of the open data community
  • Promote discourse between government, civil society organizations, media practitioners, app developers and the citizen
  • Serve as a concrete action plan of the fourth thematic area of the Open Government Partnership (technology and innovation) for the republic of Ghana.
  • Promote national development and efficiency in government through citizen feedback.
