Google Map Maker gets new Review Panel

Within the same period Google released Maps for the iPhone, they made other changes to their browser based mapping tools as well. Google some few days ago introduced a New Review Panel in their next steps towards enhancing the Google Map Maker experience.

For those not familiar with Google Map Maker, it is a tool that you can use to improve the maps of the places that matter to you. You can use it to update the actual map as seen by many users of Google Maps. You can add new place, edit an existing place, add road and review edits by other users.

The New Review Panel comes with the following key improvements:

  • New reviewing options
    • You are now presented with four options when reviewing: Yes, No, Partially and Don't Know. Partially is available only when editing a feature with multiple attribute changes.
  • Improved readability of changes:

    • Cleaner comments stream
    • Color code for different aspect of a feature. Changes are shown in yellow, deletions are shown in red, and the original is shown in grey.
  • Separate History and Published tabs
    • We now have separate section to view the History tab and list of Published edits.

It is also worth noting that country code for Ireland and Dubai have been disabled where there is no postal system.
